Details
In 1965-66, Juha Widing scored 62 goals in 50 games for the Brandon Wheat Kings. However, despite not leading the league in his final season, 1966-67, his 70 goals in 43 games was just one behind league leader Bobby Clarke of the Flin Flon Bombers. He was second in the league in overall points with 144, 39 behind Clarke and two ahead of teammate Bill Fairbairn.
Widing’s 41 goals with the Omaha Knights in 1968-69 led the CHL with a one goal edge over runner-up Steve Atkinson. He tied Atkinson with 80 points, both finishing runner-up behind Jim Lorentz.
That goal-scoring ability didn’t quite fully translate to the NHL but Juha did put up four seasons with 25 or more goals, all with the Los Angeles Kings. In 1974-75, scored 26 and six of those came in just two games. In what were his only two NHL hat tricks, Widing had three in an 8-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs and three in a 7-4 win over the Kansas City Scouts.
Between 1969-70 and 1976-77, Juha Widing played 574 regular season and eight playoff games in the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings and Cleveland Barons. He also played 71 regular season and five playoff games in the WHA with the Edmonton Oilers in 1977-78.
