As an amateur, Jean was a folk hero in and around Quebec. His scoring exploits wit the senior Quebec Aces are still legendary. “Le Gros Bill” had his best year with the Canadiens in 1955-56, scoring 47 goals and 41 assists for 88 points.

In both seasons that Jean Beliveau played with the Quebec Aces before becoming an NHL legend with the Montreal Canadiens, he led the league in goals and points. In 1951-52, he scored 45 goals and assisted on 38 for 83 points over 59 games. The following year, he scored 50 goals in 57 games while totaling 89 points.

In that 1952-53 season, Montreal was able to rope in Beliveau and Le Gros Bill appeared in three regular season games for the Habs. In those three games, Beliveau scored five goals.

In 1955-56, Jean scored a career high 47 goals and earned the Art Ross Trophy with 88 points. However, this was not his best NHL season when it came to overall scoring. In 1960-61, he totaled 91 point over just 64 games. Despite the great numbers, the Art Ross Trophy when to instead Montreal teammate Dickie Moore. Moore put up an, at the time, record of 96 points.

Jean Beliveau played 1,125 regular season and 162 playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1950-51 and 1970-71, all with Montreal. He was a two time Hart Trophy winner and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972.
