Details

Jacques Lemaire finished a distant second in Calder Trophy voting in 1967-68 with less than half the votes of winner Derek Sanderson of the Boston Bruins. Also in the running were Doug Favell, Bill Flett and Les Binkley. Of course, Lemaire is the only one of these five players to end up in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Over his 12 years in the NHL, Lemaire would score at least 20 goals in each season. He topped out with 44 markers in 1972-73, leading the Habs and finishing fourth in the NHL behind Phil Esposito, Mickey Redmond and Rick MacLeish. Three of those came on October 24, 1972 when Jacques single-handedly beat the New York Islanders. He had a hat trick and assisted on a goal by Yvan Cournoyer to figure in on all Montreal’s goals in a 4-3 win.

Between 1967-68 and 1978-79, Jacques Lemaire appeared in 853 regular season and 145 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Montreal Canadiens. In just 12 years, he was part of eight Stanley Cup championship teams in Montreal. Lemaire was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984.
