Henri Richard would certainly maintain a regular role with the Montreal Canadiens through 1973-74, putting up his best numbers since the 1966-67 NHL season with 19 goals and 36 assists for 55 points. However, it would be his swansong. In 1974-75, the Pocket Rocket appeared in just 16 regular season and six playoff games with the Habs before calling it a career.

In 1973-74, Richard had three 3-point games. In a surprisingly close 4-3 road win over the California Golden Seals on March 29, 1974, Henri scored a pair of goals and assisted on a Claude Larose marker. Richard’s 19th of the season and second of the game at 11:47 of the third made the score 4-3 and served as the game winner. Murray Wilson and Larry Robinson assisted on the goal scored on California goalie Gilles Meloche.

Despite only playing in those 16 games in 1974-75, Richard’s second last regular season game was certainly special. In an 11-1 win over the expansion Washington Capitals, Henri scored a pair of goals and assisted on a pair of Guy Lafleur goals and a single by Bob Gainey for a five point game.

His final NHL point was recorded in a game 6 loss to the Buffalo Sabres in their semi-final series on May 8, 1975 at the Montreal Forum. Richard assisted on a Guy Lafleur goal in the third period but the Habs fell 4-3 in the game and 4-2 in the series.

Between 1955-56 and 1974-75, Henri Richard played 1,258 regular season and 180 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Montreal Canadiens. The eleven-time Stanley Cup champion was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979.
