Details

An interesting quirk from O-Pee-Chee, they state that Guy Lafleur was the winner of the Art Ross Trophy in 1975-76. Indeed, he was. But, Lafleur was also the Art Ross winner in 1976-77, the season that this hockey card is supposed to be telling a story about. Guy would go on to win the trophy again in 1977-78. He would also be the 1977-78 Hart Trophy winner. Prior to Lafleur’s three consecutive wins, only Gordie Howe and Phil Esposito had won the award three or more times in a row (each with four consecutive).

Also noted on the front of the card but not on the back was his First Team All-Star selection in 1976-77. This was the third of an incredible six consecutive seasons for Guy on the First Team.

Despite his NHL career full of accolades and championships, the 12 goals scored in the 1974-75 playoffs, noted on the back of the card, were a career best. Those twelve goals were scored in just eleven games with the Habs falling to the Buffalo Sabres in the semi-final. He was the Conn Smythe Trophy winner in 1976-77 but it was his playmaking more than his goal scoring that stood out. He totaled 26 points in 14 games boosted by his 17 assists.
