Details

1980-81 would see a drastic drop in production for Guy Lafleur. After scoring 50 goals for the sixth consecutive season in 1979-80, he caught the injury bug and his numbers dropped off. In 1980-81, Guy would score 27 goals while playing just 51 games.

In 1979-80, Lafleur led the Habs with 125 points while tying Pierre Larouche for the team lead in goal scoring with 50. He finished third in the race for the Art Ross Trophy, 12 points behind co-leaders Wayne Gretzky and Marcel Dionne. His 75 assists also placed him third in the NHL behind Gretzky and Dionne.

The first overall pick by the Montreal Canadiens at the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft was the Art Ross Trophy winner for three consecutive seasons from 1975-76 to 1977-78. He was honoured with the Hart Trophy in the last two of those three years.

Between 1971-72 and 1990-91, Guy Lafleur played 1,126 regular season and 128 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Canadiens, New York Rangers and Quebec Nordiques. He took three years away from the game between his time in Montreal and his single season with the Rangers in 1988-89. Guy was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988, prior to his comeback.
