Details
Gregg Sheppard’s short handed goal scoring abilities have stood the test of time. Sheppard scored seven shorties in 1974-75, tying the team mark set by Ed Westfall in 1970-71. That record stood for about 25 years until Brian Rolston topped it in 2001-02 with nine short-handed goals.
As far as career playoff short handed goals in a Bruins jersey goes, Gregg remains third with a total of four. Ed Westfall and Derek Sanderson are tied for first with six.
Sheppard is one of 12 Boston players to score two short handed goals in a single game. He accomplished this in a 5-2 victory over the Altanta Flames on March 9, 1975.
Between 1972-73 and 1981-82, Gregg Sheppard appeared in 657 regular season and 82 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins. He missed out on a Stanley Cup championship by a year. Prior to his NHL career, Sheppard was MVP in the Central Hockey League for the 1971-72 season, playing for the Oklahoma City Blazers. In his third year with the club, he finished in a three-way tie for first place in goal scoring with J.P. Bordeleau and Ross Perkins, all with 41.
