Another of the many college products to make it in the National Hockey League, Glenn attended the University of Minnesota and was one of the few goaltenders ever to serve as captain of a team. Three years in the minor leagues preceded his debut in the NHL. Glenn performed in the International, American and Central Leagues before cracking the big leagues with the Islanders. Glenn was rookie of the year in the International League, 1971-72.

Glenn Resch played just two games with the New York Islanders in 1973-74, his first action in the National Hockey League. He lost his first game but in the second, turned away 30 of 32 shots in a 6-2 win over the Minnesota North Stars. Billy Harris helped out with the game winning goal while both Garry Howatt and Germain Gagnon had three point nights for the Isles.

In 1971-72, he earned both the James Norris Trophy as the IHL’s top goaltender and the Garry F. Longman Trophy as rookie of the year while playing 59 regular season and 11 playoff games for the Muskegon Mohawks. He helped the team to a first place overall finish during the regular season but the Mohawks fell just short of a championship, losing to the Port Huron Wings in the final. Resch was also CHL MVP in 1973-74 playing for the Fort Worth Wings.

In 1974-75, Glenn had three shutouts in 25 games for the Islanders, putting up a 2.48 goals against average. His first NHL career shutout came on December 14, 1974, a 3-0 home win over the Los Angeles Kings. Resch made 20 saves, getting help from goal scorers Garry Howatt, Billy Harris and Denis Potvin.

Between 1973-74 and 1986-87, Glenn “Chico” Resch appeared in 571 regular season and 41 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the New York Islanders, Colorado Rockies, New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers. He won a Stanley Cup championship with the Islanders in 1979-80.
