The Blazers were led by the goaltending of Gerry Cheevers.
Despite his success, Eddie was relegated to a full season in the American Hockey League for 1966-67. With Rochester, Joyal was outstanding. He 32 goals and assisted on 51 for 83 points over 70 regular season games. He tied Dick Gamble for the Amerks overall scoring lead. The two tied for sixth in the AHL, 12 points behind leader Gord Labossiere.
Despite his league leading ten goals in 13 games in the Calder Cup playoffs, Joyal couldn’t push the Americans to a championship. The team was swept in the final by the Pittsburgh Hornets, managing just six goals over the four games.
At the 1967 NHL Expansion Draft, Joyal was the fifth player taken by the Los Angeles Kings and 25th overall. His career took off with the Kings, scoring 23 goals for the Kings in 1967-68 and a career high of 33 the following season.
