Card Notes
Ed is a product of the Bruins farm system and is in his fourth season with the club. He’s a strong youngster who plays hard but clean. Boston sent him down to Providence for a brief stay last winter. He played almost 50 minutes per game in his final year of junior hockey. Westfall was an all-star selection with Niagara Falls.

In his final year of junior, 1960-61, Ed Westfall was named a First Team All-Star on defense, along with Barclay Plager. This was the first year the franchise was known as the Niagara Falls Flyers. In his first three years, he played for the Barrie Flyers.
Westfall’s 13 regular season and three playoff games with the Providence Reds in 1963-64 were the last games he would play in the minors over his career. In 1964-65, he would transition to forward for the Bruins.
1964-65 would also see Ed score the first two of his 26 career shorthanded goals. That total still ranks him tied with Don Luce for 38th all-time. Both came within a four day span. The first was scored against the Toronto Maple Leafs on February 24, 1965 and was also the game winner in a 3-1 win for the Bruins. The second was the game tying goal against the Chicago Blackhawks on February 28 in a 5-4 win. He also assisted on John Bucyk‘s GWG.
Between 1961-62 and 1978-79, Ed Westfall played 1,226 regular season and 95 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins and New York Islanders. The 1976-77 Bill Masterton Trophy winner won two Stanley Cup championship with the Bruins.
