Doug has now been selected to the First All Star team for seven straight years a feat never before equalled by any other player in any position. He has won the James Norris Trophy four consecutive years and owns the NHL assist mark in a season for defensemen with 44 in the 1956-57 campaign. The 1957-58 playoffs helped add stature to the Harvey record for with Tom Johnson hurt for all but two games, Doug was pressed into extra service. He seldom plays less than 13 minutes a period and often was over the 15 mark.

Doug Harvey would take a year off from winning the Norris Trophy in 1958-59. However, he would three consecutive from 1959-60 to 1961-62 for a career total of seven. Harvey is tied with Niklas Lidstrom for the second most career Norris Trophy wins, one behind all-time leader Bobby Orr. In 1958-59, the Norris went to Harvey’s teammate Tom Johnson.
1958-59 would also be the end of Harvey’s string of seven consecutive seasons being named a First Team All-Star. He was selected as a Second Team blue liner with Tom Johnson and Bill Gadsby taking First Team honours. That would be the only year Doug would be on the Second Team. Like the Norris, Harvey would get back track with three straight First Team designations from 1959-60 to 1961-62.
Over NHL career, Doug played 1,113 regular season and 137 playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1947-48 and 1968-69 with the Canadiens, New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues. He helped the Habs to six Stanley Cup championships. Harvey was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1973. His jersey number 2 was retired by the Canadiens in 1985.
