Dean Prentice’s lone four goal game over his NHL career occurred on November 19, 1958 at Madison Square Garden in a 7-4 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. It was the second of six career hat tricks for the 391 goal scorer.

In that game, Prentice got an early start, scoring 59 seconds into the first period, assisted by Larry Popein and Andy Bathgate. He second of the game and sixth of the 1958-59 NHL season came just 1:14 later, assisted by Bathgate and Bill Gadsby. He scored the hat trick goal early in the second and Dean’s third period marker held as the game winner.

All four goals were scored on Toronto goalie Johnny Bower. Andy Bathgate came out with a five point game on a goal and four assists. All four of Bathgate’s assists were on Prentice goals.

1969-70 with the Penguins was a bit of a renaissance for Prentice. He scored 26 goals and assisted on 25 for 51 points. It was the second highest goal total of his career behind the 32 he scored with the Rangers in 1959-60. That year, he finished fourth in the NHL behind Bobby Hull, Bronco Horvath and Jean Beliveau. Eight of his 26 in 69-70 were scored against the Minnesota North Stars.

Between 1952-53 and 1973-74, Dean Prentice played 1,378 regular season and 54 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Minnesota North Stars. Prentice was a 20+ goal scorer ten times, accomplishing the feat with five different teams.
