After 21 years in major league hockey, the best O-Pee-Chee could do was refer to Dave Keon’s Calder Trophy win at the start of his career? Never mind the two Lady Byng Trophy wins, the 1966-67 Conn Smythe, two Second Team All-Star selections and four Stanley Cup championships, along with accolades in the WHA, as well.

In 1981-82, Keon was entering his final season in the National Hockey League. He played all but two games for the Hartford Whalers but produced just eight goals and 19 points. For his final season, he would take over as team captain from Mike Rogers, who had left for the New York Rangers in the off-season.

The Gentleman, Keon sat just 117 minutes in penalties over 1,296 regular season NHL games. Over 92 games in the Stanley Cup playoffs, he sat just three minor penalties. Along with being awarded the Lady Byng Trophy twice, he also was a two time winner of the Paul Deneau Trophy, the WHA equivalent.

Between 1960-61 and 1981-82, Dave Keon appeared in 1,296 regular season and 92 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Hartford Whalers. Between 1975-76 and 1978-79, he played another 301 regular season and 36 playoff games in the WHA with the Minnesota Fighting Saints, Indianapolis Racers and New England Whalers. he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1986.
