Card Notes

This would be the last hockey card produced featuring Danny Grant during his National Hockey League playing career. He came over to the Los Angeles Kings from the Detroit Red Wings in a January 9, 1978 trade in exchange for draft picks. Despite playing 41 games for the Kings in 1977-78, O-Pee-Chee couldn’t get a picture of him in a Los Angeles jersey for the front of this card.

It was actually looking up for Danny to end 1977-78. With the Kings, he had 29 points in 41 games, his best numbers since his 1974-75 50 goal season with the Red Wings. However, the injuries that had reduced him to a part-time player from 1975-76 on got to him again and his career was over 35 games into the 1978-79 NHL season.

After a standout junior career with the Peterborough Petes, Grant managed to get into 736 regular season and 43 Stanley Cup playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1965-66 and 1978-79 with the Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota North Stars, Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings. He was the Calder Trophy winner as rookie of the year in 1968-69 with the North Stars.
