Details
There is a recycled ERROR on the back of this 1971-72 Danny Grant hockey card that has appeared on at least one other of his. Grant was not the first from a West Division team to win an award. Glenn Hall of the St. Louis Blues was the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1967-68.
Danny would go on to score 50 goals in a season for the Detroit Red Wings, a career high before injuries took him out. With the Minnesota North Stars, Grant had a pair of 34 goal seasons and would also score 32 in 1972-73.
Scoring 34 goals in 1970-71, Danny had five two-goal games. On December 25, 1970 in a 6-3 home win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, Grant had a pair, including the game winner. He put his 16th and 17th of the season past Toronto goalie Bruce Gamble while putting five shots on net.
In the post season, he came up big against his former club, despite the North Stars falling in six games to the Montreal Canadiens in the semi-final. Over the six, Grant had four goals and three helpers for seven points. All three assists came in 6-3 game 2 win at the Montreal Forum, all in the first period. In a span of just over ten minutes, Danny assisted on goals by J.P. Parise, Jude Drouin and Ted Hampson, giving the visitors an early 3-0 lead.
Between 1965-66 and 1978-79, Danny Grant played 736 regular season and 43 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota North Stars, Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings. His streak of 566 consecutive games played still ranks as the 17th most in NHL history.
