Details

It should be noted that while playing for the expansion Vancouver Canucks from 1970-71 to 1972-73 was frustrating, Dale Tallon put up decent numbers for a blue liner. As a rookie in 1970-71, after being selected second overall at the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft behind Gilbert Perreault, Tallon led the Canucks with 42 assists and was the team’s highest scoring defenseman.

In that rookie campaign, Dale was fifth in the voting for the Calder Trophy as NHL rookie of the year. Perreault of the Buffalo Sabres was pretty much the unanimous winner with Jude Drouin, Gilles Villemure and Tom Webster also in the running.

Tallon responded to the move to Chicago with 15 goals in 65 games, two shy of his career high. He had three 3-point games, including two against the Detroit Red Wings. Dale helped the Blackhawks to the 1974 Stanley Cup semi-final before bowing out to the Boston Bruins.

Between 1970-71 and 1979-80, Dale Tallon played 642 regular season and 33 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins. A native of Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Tallon played his junior hockey with the Oshawa Generals and Toronto Marlboros.
