Claude, an eleven year veteran with Canadiens, reached the 200 goal plateau last season. A fast-skating, tireless player, Claude is particularly adept at checking opposing forwards and coming up with the puck in corner skirmishes.

Goal number 200 for Claude Provost was scored on February 13, 1966 at Detroit Olympia in a 4-3 win over the Red Wings. Provost scored the milestone goal 1:17 into the game, putting the Canadiens up 1-0. The goal was scored on Detroit goalie Roger Crozier and assisted by Gilles Tremblay.

As an encore, just under four minutes later, Claude put the Habs up 2-0 with his second of the game, 14th of the 1965-66 NHL season and 201st of his NHL career. To cap off the night, Provost assisted on Tremblay’s game winning goal, scored 35 seconds into the third.

Provost’s numbers dropped dramatically in 1966-67 with eleven goals and 13 assists for 24 points over 64 games. However, again against the Red Wings, Claude had an exceptional game on March 4, 1967 at the Montreal Forum. He scored late in the first, assisted by Henri Richard, to make the score 3-0. It served as the game winner in the 6-2 victory. Provost also assisted on a shorthanded goal by Gilles Tremblay in the second and Henri Richard’s 12th of the season, 59 seconds into the third.

Between 1955-56 and 1969-70, Claude Provost played 1,005 regular season and 126 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Montreal Canadiens. The nine-time Stanley Cup champion had a career year in 1961-62 with 33 goals, leading the Habs and finishing in a three-way tie for second in the NHL with Frank Mahovlich and Gordie Howe.
