Clément, un des patineurs les plus rapides dans la LNH, a aidé Philadelphie à gagner la Coupe Stanley à deux reprises. Après son acquisition durant la saison précédente, il s’accommoda très bien du style de jeu des Flames.
Details
Bill Clement came to the Atlanta Flames from the Washington Capitals in a 1975-76 midseason trade for Jean Lemieux, Gerry Meehan and a first round pick. That season began a string of three that saw Clement put up the best offensive numbers of his NHL career.
In that 1975-76 NHL season, Bill had an offensive explosion in just his third game with Atlanta. Ironically, it was against his original team, the Philadelphia Flyers. On January 27, 1976 at the Omni in Atlanta, Clement had three goals on the three shots he put toward Philadelphia goalie Bobby Taylor. He also assisted on an Eric Vail goal for a four point game in the 8-4 victory over the Flyers.
That was his first of two hat tricks in the NHL. The second came during the 1976-77 campaign. On March 12, 1977 against the New York Rangers at the Omni, Clement scored three (one shorthanded) in a 6-3 win. Again, Bill had just three shots on net, this time on John Davidson.
Between 1971-72 and 1981-82, Bill Clement played 719 regular season and 50 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals, Atlanta Flames and Calgary Flames. The two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Flyers reached the 20 goal plateau on three occasions, scoring his career best 23 in his 1975-76 season split between the Capitals and Flames.
