Card Notes
Bernie’s boyhood idol was Jacques Plante, and now the two Frenchmen are teammates with Toronto. An “Angles” goalie who seldom falls to the ice, Bernie came out of the Boston farm system.
This is the only hockey card featuring Bernie Parent as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He took the lead with the Buds in 1971-72 but was off to the World Hockey Association for 1972-73, playing for the Philadelphia Blazers.
After his year in the WHA, Parent returned to the Philadelphia Flyers for 1973-74. From that point, his Hockey Hall of Fame career really took off. Over the next two seasons, 1973-74 and 1974-75, he led the Flyers to consecutive Stanley Cup championships. In each of the campaigns, he won the Vezina Trophy and the Conn Smythe Trophy.
