Card Notes

Bernie’s boyhood idol was Jacques Plante, and now the two Frenchmen are teammates with Toronto. An “Angles” goalie who seldom falls to the ice, Bernie came out of the Boston farm system.

Details

This is the only hockey card featuring Bernie Parent as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He took the lead with the Buds in 1971-72 with Plante serving as backup, but was off to the World Hockey Association for 1972-73, playing for the Philadelphia Blazers.

After his year in the WHA, Parent returned to the Philadelphia Flyers for 1973-74. From that point, his Hockey Hall of Fame career really took off. Over the next two seasons, 1973-74 and 1974-75, he led the Flyers to consecutive Stanley Cup championships. In each of the campaigns, he won the Vezina Trophy and the Conn Smythe Trophy.

Between 1965-66 and 1978-79, Bernie Parent appeared in 608 regular season and 71 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs. Bernie was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984 and his jersey number 1 was retired by the Flyers in 1979.
