Details

Behn Wilson’s record of 63 points by a Philadelphia defenseman would last just a couple years. The mark is owned by Mark Howe with his 82 in 1985-86 but Howe first eclipsed Wilson’s mark in 1982-83 with 67. Behn’s 63 points, a career best, still stands as the fifth most by a Flyers blue liner.

With 63 points and 237 penalty minutes (good for sixth in the NHL), games like the 8-0 win over the Calgary Flames at the Spectrum on October 28, 1980 were not out of the ordinary. Wilson scored a pair of goals, including a shorthanded marker at 19:46 of the first period, assisted by Reg Leach and Bobby Clarke, while also receiving a pair of ten-minute misconducts for 20 PIM. 212 total penalty minutes were handed out in the game.

His other shorthanded goal of the 1980-81 NHL season came in a 7-2 home win over the Los Angeles Kings on January 18, 1981. Behn scored at 14:13 of the second period with Reggie Leach in the box, assisted by Mel Bridgman. Less than four minutes later, teammate Tom Gorence also put one in on the penalty kill. This game also featured over 200 total PIM with 223.

Between 1978-79 and 1987-88, Behn Wilson played 601 regular season and 67 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Philadelphia Flyers and Chicago Blackhawks. He was the sixth overall pick by the Flyers at the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft after playing junior for the Ottawa 67’s, Windsor Spitfires and Kingston Canadians.
