This 1968-69 O-Pee-Chee NHL hockey card featuring Allan Stanley of the Philadelphia Flyers contains an uncorrected error. It certainly wasn’t the first time that his first name was misspelled ‘Alan’. In this case, the error occurs three times on the back. His name is spelt correctly on the front.
Not an error, just a fine example of O-Pee-Chee trying to repurpose a photo, the image on the front of the card has been severely altered. It is indeed Allan Stanley’s head and body but everything below his neck is a paint job. The photo is the exact same one that was used for his 1967-68 Topps card when he was still a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs. They’ve taken the picture and painted Stanley Philadelphia orange, black and white.
