Details

Though he’d appeared in 19 games with the Chicago Blackhawks during the 1961-62 NHL season, Wayne Hillman was still considered a rookie in 1962-63. He jumped onto the scene with the Hawks and finished third in voting for the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year. The award was taken by Kent Douglas of the Toronto Maple Leafs with just a single vote edge over Doug Barkley from the Red Wings.

Older brother Floyd Hillman appeared in just six NHL games over his career, all with the Boston Bruins in 1956-57. Larry Hillman was the brother with the most experience with 791 games in the NHL and 192 more in the WHA.

Wayne would remain with the Blackhawks until a February 4, 1965 trade sent him to the New York Rangers along with John Brenneman and Doug Robinson. Going to Chicago were Camille Henry, Don Johns and Billy Taylor.

Between 1960-61 and 1972-73, Wayne Hillman appeared in 691 regular season and 28 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Blackhawks, Rangers, Minnesota North Stars and Philadelphia Flyers. For the 1973-74 and 1974-75 seasons, Wayne joined brother Larry in the WHA with the Cleveland Crusaders.
