Card Notes

Big and blond, Wayne is a good man to have on your side when the going gets tough. Played junior hockey with Bobby Orr, and came up all the way in the Boston system. Had nine as Boston won Stanley Cup in 1969-70. Regular play suits him.

Details

There is an ERROR on the back of the card, in the French section. It claims Wayne Cashman came up through the Black Hawks system. Of course, as is stated in the English section, he came up through the Bruins system.

Not an error, but perhaps O-Pee-Chee could have been a bit clearer about his goal total in 1969-70. The nine goals they refer to were regular season markers. In the playoffs, Cashman scored five for the Bruins.

The 58 assists Wayne contributed in 1970-71 placed fifth in the National Hockey League. It also placed him fifth on the Bruins as the team took the top five spots in the category. Ahead of him were Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito, John Bucyk and Ken Hodge. He would top that mark in 1973-74 with 59 assists, a career high.

Between 1964-65 and 1982-83, Wayne played in 1,027 regular season and 145 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Bruins. He moved on to a coaching career, spending time as an assistant coach with the New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, San Jose Sharks, Philadelphia Flyers and the Bruins.
