Card Notes
Next to George Armstrong, Tim boasts the longest service with the Leafs. Starting his 15th season, his slap-shot from the blue line is the dread of NHL goalies. A versatile hockey player, Tim is often used at Right Wing for that added “beef” up front.
Details
1966-67 would be another great season for Tim Horton, finishing fourth in voting for the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenseman. it was an award he never would win but he was often in the running. In what was the last year before Bobby Orr won the Norris for eight consecutive seasons, Horton finished behind winner Harry Howell with Pierre Pilote and Orr also in the running.
In the 1967 Stanley Cup playoffs, Tim was outstanding for the Maple Leafs. He recorded eight points in 12 games as Toronto captured the championship. In the final series against the Montreal Canadiens, he recorded a point in each of the first five games. In the opening game of the playoffs, a 5-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, Horton assisted on a Jim Pappin goal and dropped the gloves with Phil Esposito.
Between 1949-50 and 1973-74, Tim Horton played 1,445 regular season and 126 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres. The four-time Stanley Cup champion was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1977.
