Details
Though his goal total dropped in half in 1965-66 from 12 in 1964-65, Tim Horton’s point total remained the same at 28. He had a pair of three point games and one of his six goals was a game winner. On March 19, 1966, in a 4-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks, Horton scored his sixth of the season with just a second left on the clock in the first period to make the score 3-0 Toronto. The goal was scored on Chicago goalie Glenn Hall and assisted by George Armstrong.
Of his 12 goals in 1964-65, a career best, Tim had three 2-goal games. On January 2, 1965 at Maple Leaf Gardens, he scored two in a 3-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. His second of the game was scored shorthanded and unassisted at 4:20 of the third on Detroit goalie Roger Crozier to close out the game’s scoring.
The year prior to that, 1963-64, an amazing seven of his nine regular season goals were game winners. In an October 19, 1963 2-1 win over the Red Wings, Horton scored both Toronto goals. In the post season, he stuck to a defensive role with no goals and four assists over 14 games as the Maple Leafs captured their third consecutive Stanley Cup title.
Between 1949-50 and 1973-74, Tim Horton played 1,445 regular season and 126 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres. The 4-time Stanley Cup champion was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1977.
