Card Notes

An 18-goal man for the Kings last season, Irvine was drafted out of the Boston system after solid years with Minneapolis and Oklahoma City of the CPHL. At 6-2, 190, Ted is one of the bigger forwards in the game. He’s got a fine shot.

Details

Ted Irvine’s offensive production would remain steady in his second season with the Los Angeles Kings, 1968-69. He scored 15 and assisted on 24 for 39 points. In the post season, he scored five over eleven games, helping the franchise to their first ever playoff series win. The Kings took out the Oakland Seals in the opening round, despite being outscored in the series.

In the opening game of that set with the Seals, Ted scored the winning goal 19 seconds into overtime. He would then score two goals, both assisted by Lowell MacDonald, in a game seven 5-3 win, helping L.A. advance to the semi-final. They were then swept by the St. Louis Blues.

His best season offensively came in 1973-74 with the New York Rangers. Irvine scored 26 goals and assisted on 20 for 46 points. It was the second of two times over his NHL career that Ted would reach the 20 goal plateau.

Irvine helped the Oklahoma City Blazers to consecutive CHL titles in 1965-66 and 1966-67. In a combined 20 playoff games over the two seasons, Ted contributed 12 goals. Those Oklahoma City teams were laden with future NHLers, including Wayne Cashman, Terry Crisp, Jean Pronovost, Glen Sather, J.P. Parise, Skip Krake and Ross Lonsberry, along with the goaltending trio of Gerry Cheevers, Doug Favell and Bernie Parent.

Between 1963-64 and 1976-77, Ted Irvine appeared in 724 regular season and 83 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues. His time with the Bruins consisted of a single game call-up in 1963-64.
