Card Notes

Steve is known for his overall aggressiveness. He led the Scouts in penalty time last season, and is a real favorite with the fans.

Steve has held many records for penalty minutes.

Details

Steve Durbano actually split time in 1975-76 between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Kansas City Scouts. He was traded on January 8, 1976 with Chuck Arnason for Ed Gilbert and Simon Nolet. He amassed 161 penalty minutes in 32 games with the Pens and 209 PIM in 37 games with the Scouts.

What the card fails to mention is that Durbano led the whole National Hockey League with his 370 penalty minutes in 1975-76. He had 48 more than second place Bryan Watson of the Detroit Red Wings and 63 more than third place Dave Schultz of the Philadelphia Flyers.

This would be Durbano’s last hockey card as his career fizzled going into the 1976-77 season. He played just 19 games with the Colorado Rockies. The following year, he had a stint in the WHA with the Birmingham Bulls (arriving in a trade involving Vaclav Nedomansky and the Detroit Red Wings). In 1978-79, he played 13 games with the St. Louis Blues before calling it a career.
