Details

With the Quebec Aces in 1967-68, Simon Nolet scored 44 goals and assisted 52 for 96 points. He was awarded the John B. Sollenberger Trophy for the AHL’s overall scoring leader, finishing a single point ahead of Bob Barlow of the Rochester Americans. His goal total was good for second, three behind leader Eddie Kachur of the Providence Reds.

1970-71 was the year that Nolet became a true regular in the National Hockey League and never played in the minors again. After helping the Flyers to a historic Stanley Cup championship in 1973-74, he was picked up by the Kansas City Scouts in the 1974 NHL Expansion Draft. Simon was the fifth overall pick and the first non-goalie to be selected.

On October 9, 1974 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Simon Nolet scored a goal 56 seconds into the second period to become the first ever to score a goal for the Kansas City Scouts. The goal was assisted by Dave Hudson and Jim McElmury. The Scouts lost the game 6-2 with Michel Plasse being pummeled with 46 shots.

In all, Simon Nolet played in 562 regular season and 34 playoff games in the NHL between 1967-68 and 1976-77 with the Flyers, Scouts, Pittsburgh Penguins and Colorado Rockies. He was the first team captain in Kansas City Scouts (Colorado Rockies / New Jersey Devils) history.
