Card Notes

Stan has been an all-star centre the past 6 years. Last season Stan enjoyed perhaps his greatest year in the league. He was leading scorer for the 3rd time, won the Hart Trophy and the Lady Byng Trophy and helped lead the Hawks to their first NHL championship in 41 years.

En Français

Stan a été choisi comme centre de l’Equipe d’Etoiles durant les 6 dernières années. Il fut en tête des compteurs pour la troisième fois; il décrocha le Trophée Hart et le Trophée Byng.

Details

Stan Mikita’s string of consecutive All-Star Team selections would continue for one more year. He missed out in 1968-69 before his final Second Team All-Star nod in 1969-70. In all, he was First Team six times and Second Team twice.

Amazingly, he would repeat the Triple Crown in 1967-68, winning the Art Ross, Hart and Lady Byng. He led the NHL with ten points less than the previous season and just a three point edge over Phil Esposito. The following year, 1968-69, he would tie his career best 97 points but this time it placed him fourth behind Esposito, Bobby Hull and Gordie Howe.

1966-67 was the first and only time during the Original 6 era that the Chicago Blackhawks finished first overall in the NHL. At the time, they were awarded the Prince of Wales Trophy for the accomplishment. However, the Hawks were upset in the opening round by the Toronto Maple Leafs, ousted in six games.

Between 1958-59 and 1979-80, Stan Mikita appeared in 1,394 regular season and 155 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Chicago Blackhawks. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983.
