This 1966-67 Topps Stan Mikita hockey card gives some insight into how much the game has changed offensively over the past five plus decades. His NHL record of 59 assists in a season, set in 1964-65, today stands as the 411th highest single season total. He would break the record in 1966-67 with 62 helpers. The 67 assists he put up in 1968-69 (a career high) didn’t even lead the league. That year, he finished second, ten behind Phil Esposito.

1966-67 would start a set of two consecutive triple crown seasons for Mikita. In both 66-67 and 67-68, he was awarded the Art Ross Trophy, Hart Trophy and Lady Byng Trophy. He finished his career winning the Art Ross four times. Only six players have won the award more: Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Gordie Howe, Phil Esposito, Jaromir Jagr and Connor McDavid.

As for All-Star Team selections, Stan was named a First Team All-Star on six occasions and a Second Team All-Star twice. He played in nine NHL All-Star games over his 22 years in the league.

Between 1958-59 and 1979-80, Stan Mikita appeared in 1,394 regular season and 155 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Chicago Blackhawks. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983 and his jersey number 21 was retired by the Hawks in 1980.
