Ron Greschner nearly doubled his offensive numbers in 1976-77 over the year prior but the best was yet to come. In 1977-78, he had career highs of 48 assists and 72 points. In 1980-81, he would top out with a 27 goal season.

In that 1976-77 NHL season, Greschner scored two of his career shorthanded goals, an impressive stat for a blue liner. One was in a 10-3 loss to the Boston Bruins. The other was part of a three point game on February 23, 1977 at Maple Leaf Gardens.

In a 5-4 road win over Toronto, Greschner scored his eighth of the season, assisted by Greg Polis, while teammate Dave Farrish was in the box for hooking. Ron also assisted on a pair of Rod Gilbert goals, both scored on Toronto goalie Wayne Thomas. Ultimately, it was Phil Esposito scoring the game winner, just 29 seconds after Gilbert’s second of the game tied the score at 4-4.

Between 1974-75 and 1989-90, Ron Greschner played 982 regular season and 84 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the New York Rangers. He was a second round pick by the Rangers at the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft out of the New Westminster Bruins. In his rookie 1974-75 campaign, Greschner was fifth in voting for the Calder Trophy as NHL rookie of the year.
