Rick Blight would put up career numbers with the Vancouver Canucks in 1976-77, scoring 28 goals and assisting on 40 for 68 points. He led the team in goals and points, finishing second in assists behind just Dennis Kearns.
His ten power play goals in his rookie 1975-76 NHL season were just one behind team leader Dennis Ververgaert. He led the team in 1976-77 with eleven scored with the man advantage. The year after that, Blight again scored 11 PPG, three behind team leader Mike Walton. Over his NHL career, 34 of his 96 goals were scored on the power play.
In 1976-77, Rick opened the season with a four goal game in a 9-5 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. It was his only career hat trick in the NHL. Three of the four were scored with the man advantage.
Between 1975-76 and 1982-83, Rick Blight played 326 regular season and five playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings. His time with L.A. was limited to two games in 1982-83. Originally, Blight was the tenth overall pick at the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft by the Canucks after a standout junior career with the Brandon Wheat Kings.
