Card Notes

Though not a big man, Reg is at his best in robust-type play. This hard working winger will add spark to the Buffalo team. Reg is sometimes guilty of taking “cheap” penalties, but his presence on the ice will keep opposing forwards with their heads up. Reg was most penalized player in 1965-66 season.

Details

1970-71 would be the final season in Reg Fleming’s National Hockey League career. However, his pro career would be extended for a handful of seasons in the minors and the WHA. For the first time in his NHL career, Fleming appeared in all his club’s regular season games.

In 1974-75, he found himself with the Saginaw Gears in the IHL. Playing just eight games during the regular season, Reg was a factor in the team reaching the Turner Cup final before losing to the Toledo Goaldiggers in seven games. He appeared in 17 post season games and contributed 21 points.

Fleming did lead the NHL with 166 penalty minutes during the 1965-66 season. He started the year with the Boston Bruins, sitting 42 minutes over 34 games. After a January 10, 1966 trade sent him to the New York Rangers, in exchange for John McKenzie, he ramped up his antics with 124 PIM in just 35 games. He had a healthy 12 minute edge over second place John Ferguson of the Montreal Canadiens.

Between 1959-60 and 1970-71, Reggie Fleming appeared in 749 regular season and 50 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, Chicago Blackhawks, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers and Buffalo Sabres. His time in Montreal was limited to three games and isn’t noted on the back of this 1970-71 O-Pee-Chee hockey card.

Reg spent two years in the World Hockey Association, 1972-73 and 1973-74, both with the Chicago Cougars. His style changed in the inaugural season of the WHA when he put up 23 goals and 68 points over 75 games while collecting a modest 93 PIM.
