ERROR – Pete Mahovlich missed 17 games in 1972-73, not 27. Still, his 59 points in 61 games placed him fourth on the Montreal Canadiens in scoring. The Habs had a struggle with the injury bug that year with just Frank Mahovlich playing the full 78 game schedule.

Peter’s numbers jumped in 1973-74, aided by not missing a single game. His 36 goals were second to Yvan Cournoyer for the Habs with both Pete and Yvan tying for second with 73 points, seven behind The Big M.

Mahovlich would explode offensively in 1974-75 after his brother had moved on to the WHA. In 1974-75, he placed fifth in the race for the Art Ross Trophy with a career high 117 points. He still wasn’t the team leader in Montreal with Guy Lafleur totaling 119. Pete following that up with 105 points in 1975-76.

Between 1965-66 and 1980-81, Pete Mahovlich played 884 regular season and 88 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Penguins. He was a four-time Stanley Cup champion with the Habs. He also has two AHL Calder Cup titles, the first with the Pittsburgh Hornets in 1966-67 and the second with the Adirondack Red Wings in 1980-81.
