Card Notes

In each of the last two years “Tricky Nick” finished up with 19 goals, good for most forwards but a disappointment to one with his size, speed and shot-making ability. He has played the better part of 6 seasons with New York, at Center or either Wing position. His big thrill was scoring 4 goals against Harry Lumley in ’49. Nick scored 20 goals and 15 assists in 1950-51.

Details

Nick Mickoski would last 18 games into the 1954-55 NHL season before the New York Rangers traded him to the Chicago Blackhawks. On November 23, 1954, he was shipped to the Windy City with Allan Stanley for Pete Conacher and Bill Gadsby.

Mickoski would again score 19 goals in 1955-56 with the Blackhawks but would never top the 20 goal mark again. He played in 705 regular season and 18 playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1947-48 and 1959-60 with the Rangers, Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins.

Error!

Nick Mickoski did have a four goal game against Harry Lumley. However, it was not in ’49, as the back of the card states. The four goal game came during the 1950-51 NHL season in a Christmas Eve game between the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks.

On December 24, 1950, the Rangers beat the Blackhawks 6-1 at Madison Square Garden. Nick had a natural hat trick in the second period, scoring New York’s second, third and fourth goals. He then scored his fourth goal of the game at 19:35 of the third period. Mickoski also assisted on a Don Raleigh goal in the first period for a five point night.
