Details

The St. Louis Blues franchise record, noted on the back of this 1982-83 O-Pee-Chee hockey card, for most shutouts in a season has since been broken. However, Glenn Hall’s eight blanks in 1968-69 still stands as the second most in team history. Brian Elliott had nine shutouts in 2011-12. As for Mike Liut, he had a total of ten shutouts over six seasons with the Blues.

Liut did set a team record in 1982-83 with 68 games played. That has since been topped by Grant Fuhr and Curtis Joseph. Fuhr holds the record with 79 games played in 1995-96. While with the Blues, Mike had four years playing 60 or more games.

His only shutout during that 1982-83 season came on October 16, 1982 at the Checkerdome against the Detroit Red Wings. The Blues came out on top 6-0 with Liut turning away all 35 shots. Rob Ramage scored the game winner 10:57 of the first period on Greg Stefan, assisted by Vaclav Nedomansky and Brian Sutter. It was the first of four powerplay goals for St. Louis in the game.

Between 1979-80 and 1991-92, Mike Liut appeared in 664 regular season and 67 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Blues, Hartford Whalers and Washington Capitals. He was a First Team All-Star in 1980-81 and a Second Team All-Star in 1986-87.
