Details

Mike Bossy finished his NHL career with nine of his ten seasons scoring 50 or more goals. All nine were consecutively. This stands today as an NHL record, one more than Wayne Gretzky and three more than Guy Lafleur. In overall 50 goal seasons, Bossy, Gretzky and Alex Ovechkin all have nine.

Bossy added one more Lady Byng Trophy in 1985-86 for a total of three during his NHL career. He was also the Calder Trophy winner in 1977-78 as NHL rookie of the year. Barry Beck of the Colorado Rockies was runner-up that year. Also in his trophy case is the Conn Smythe Trophy, won in 1981-82 during the third of four consecutive New York Islanders Stanley Cup wins.

In that playoff year, Bossy scored 17 and assisted on ten for 27 points over 19 games. In the final series sweep of the Vancouver Canucks, Mike had seven goals in four games, including a hat trick in game one and two game winning goals. The second of those two GWG was the series and Cup clincher in game 4. His first of two goals on Richard Brodeur in the game put the Islanders up 2-1 in the 3-1 win.

Between 1977-78 and 1986-87, Mike Bossy played 752 regular season and 129 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the New York Islanders. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991 and his jersey number 22 was retired by the Islanders in 1992.
