Details

Mike Bossy scored the 100th goal of his NHL career and his 47th of the 1978-79 season on February 19, 1979 in a game against the Kings at the Los Angeles Forum. Mike scored the milestone goal at 1:33 of the second period on Ron Grahame, assisted by Gerry Hart. The goal also served as the game winner in an 8-3 Islanders victory. He also assisted on a third period marker by Clark Gillies for a two point game.

At the time, Bossy was in the midst of a ten game goal scoring streak that saw him put in 12 over that time while also assisting on seven for 19 points. He would go on to score a career high 69 that year, his first of five times with 60 or more. In 1980-81, he would surpass the 200 career goal plateau.

Between 1977-78 and 1986-87, Mike Bossy played 752 regular season and 129 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the New York Islanders. The 1977-78 Calder Trophy winner and 1981-82 Conn Smythe Trophy winner was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991.

As for the trivia question, the Islanders scored 11 seconds into a playoff game against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on April 11, 1975. At the time, it set a new NHL record for the shortest overtime previously belonging to the Chicago Blackhawks when Pit Martin scored 12 seconds into OT in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on April 9, 1972.

In the time before Mike Bossy and Bryan Trottier, the Islanders were tied at one win each in their opening round best of three series. In the game, the Isles jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a pair of goals by Denis Potvin (one on the powerplay and one shorthanded) and one by Clark Gillies. The Rangers came back with three in the third, two by Bill Fairbairn and one by Steve Vickers, to force overtime.

Just eleven seconds in, J.P. Parise put one past Ed Giacomin, assisted by Jude Drouin. Giacomin had come in for Gilles Villemure after the third Islanders goal and faced just five shots over 26 minutes. The Islanders won the series, moving on to take out the Pittsburgh Penguins before falling to the Philadelphia Flyers in the semi-final.
