“Mike Bossy Sets Record for Goals by a Rookie”
Uniondale, N.Y., April 8 – Right wing Mike Bossy of the New York Islanders set a National Hockey League record for goal-scoring by a rookie today, when he scored his 53rd goal in the Islanders’ final regular season game. Bossy had previously shattered the old record of 44 goals held by Richard Martin of Buffalo. Bossy’s final goal of the season came at the 0:38 mark of the second period in a 7-2 Islander victory over the Rangers. He finishes the season with 91 total points on the NHL’s final scoring list.
