Details
First off – nice cameo by Quebec Nordiques teammate Robbie Ftorek on the front of the card.
Michel Goulet did put up 135 points in 1977-78 for the Quebec Remparts in the QMJHL. In the high scoring junior league, this didn’t even place him in the top 10. However, his 73 goals tied him for fifth. What was amazing about his second year numbers is that Goulet had just 35 points in 1976-77, his only other year of major junior hockey.
After a year with the Birmingham Bulls of the WHA, Michel was a first round pick by the Nordiques at the 1979 NHL Amateur Draft. As a rookie with Quebec, Goulet finished behind just Real Cloutier and Marc Tardif in team scoring.
Goulet scored 548 goals in 1,089 regular season NHL games between 1979-80 and 1983-84 with the Nordiques and Chicago Blackhawks. He had seven consecutive seasons with at least 42 goals and topped 53 goals in four straight seasons. His career best came in 1982-83 when he scored 57 goals for Quebec. That number placed him fourth behind Wayne Gretzky, Lanny McDonald and Mike Bossy.
