One of the best defensive forwards in the NHL, Marty is extremely effective in controlling the puck when his team is shorthanded. This is his 8th year with the Red Wings. Although he has never broken into the “20 Goal Circle”, Marty came close in 1951-52, when he had 17. That year he had 19 assists for 36 points, his high for his career. Marty is also a fine baseball player.

Those 17 goals and 36 points Marty Pavelich put up in 1951-52 would stand as career highs. He would come close in 1954-55 with 15 goals and 30 points for the Red Wings. By the end of 1956-57, he was retired from the game.

Despite just ten years in the National Hockey League, all with Detroit, Marty was a member of four Stanley Cup championship teams and went to the final three times. He was simply a well-developed player by the Red Wings that came up through their junior program in Galt, Ontario and spent time with their Indianapolis Capitals AHL affiliate.

Between 1947-48 and 1956-57, Marty Pavelich played in 634 regular season and 91 playoff games in the National Hockey League.
