A rusher and a hard body checker, Marcel is one of the NHL’s fastest defensemen. He started in pro hockey in 1949 with Omaha and scored 52 points. Detroit called him up for the 1949-50 playoffs and he became one of the youngest players to play on a Stanley Cup winning team. in 1951, Marcel became a Detroit regular and in 1952-53 was credited with 27 points, his NHL high.

Details
In 1949-50, Marcel Pronovost spent the entire regular season in the USHL with the Omaha Knights. He produced 52 points on 13 goals and 39 assists over 69 games. In the playoffs, he led the team with 13 points in seven games. Omaha swept their best of five opening round with the Kansas City Mohawks before losing in the final to the Minneapolis Millers.
He then joined the Detroit Red Wings and played nine of the teams 14 games in the playoffs that year. Playing all six games in the final series against the New York Rangers, Pronovost recorded his first NHL point in a 4-1 game 1 victory at Detroit Olympia. Marcel assisted on a Gerry Couture goal scored on New York goalie Chuck Rayner.
In 1954-55, Pronovost had a career year offensively with 34 points on nine goals and 25 assists. He had two 3-point games during the regular season and scored a shorthanded goal in game 2 of the Stanley Cup final against the Montreal Canadiens. With Ted Lindsay in the box for high sticking just 1:58 into the game, Marcel scored at 2:15 on Montreal goalie Charlie Hodge, assisted by Bob Goldham.
Between 1949-50 and 1969-70, Marcel Pronovost played 1,206 regular season and 134 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs. He won three Stanley Cup titles with the Wings and one with the Maple Leafs. Pronovost was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1978.
