In the NHL the longest of any player on the Wings, this is Bob’s 11th season in the League. Wing fans call him a “second goalie” and experts consider him one of the top defensemen in the Game. Bob broke in with Toronto in 1941 and after serving in the Canadian Navy was traded to Chicago in ’47. Three years later he joined Detroit where he played great hockey.

This 1954-55 Topps hockey card, along with 1954-55 Parkhurst card, would be the last for Bob Goldham. He would playe the 1954-55 and 1955-56 seasons in the NHL but there was no cardboard produced in his final campaign.

The Norris Trophy was introduced in 1953-54 to celebrate the top defenseman in the league. In 1954-55, Goldham finished fourth in voting behind winner Doug Harvey, along with Red Kelly and Fern Flaman. Bob was named a Second Team All-Star that year while leading the Red Wings to their second consecutive Stanley Cup championship.

Between 1941-42 and 1955-56, Bob Goldham appeared in 648 regular season and 66 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings. In his rookie season, he was part of a Stanley Cup championship team with Toronto. He was on the roster in 1946-47 when the Leafs won again but Goldham didn’t play in the post season. With Detroit, he helped the Red Wings to three titles.
