Details
On November 13, 1983 at the Aud in Buffalo, Lindy Ruff scored his second goal of the 1983-84 NHL season at 8:17 of the second period, assisted by Phil Housley, to make the score 5-1 in the 11-2 victory over the visiting Calgary Flames. He also assisted on goals by Mike Foligno and Ric Seiling for a three point game. In the match, both Foligno and Gilbert Perreault recorded hat tricks for the Sabres.
Ruff would repeat the performance on December 10, 1983 in a 4-2 win over the Bruins at Boston Garden. Lindy opened the scoring at 7:25 of the first period, assisted by Jerry Korab and Ric Seiling. He also assisted on goals by Housley and Seiling for another 3-pointer.
In 1984-85, Lindy would appear in just 39 regular season games. He did have a thing for playing the Quebec Nordiques that year. On October 19, 1984, he recorded three assists in a 5-4 home win, setting up two goals by Mike Foligno and one by Gilles Hamel. In the post season, despite being eliminated by the Nordiques in game five of their opening round best of five series, Ruff had a four point game.
On April 16, 1985 at Le Colisée, Lindy scored his second of the playoffs and assisted on two goals by Gilbert Perreault and a single by Ric Seiling. Buffalo held a 5-3 lead until 11:02 of the third period when the Nordiques stormed back with three unanswered to advance.
Between 1979-80 and 1990-91, Lindy Ruff played 691 regular season and 52 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Buffalo Sabres and New York Rangers. He was originally a second round pick by the Sabres at the 1979 NHL Entry Draft after a junior career with the Lethbridge Broncos. He went on to lengthy coaching career that has put him behind the bench with the Sabres, Dallas Stars, New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils.
