Card Notes

Larry spent a season and half gaining experience with Montreal’s American Hockey League farm club before making the jump to the NHL. He’s not an overly penalized player but he has a well-earned reputation for toughness. He’s good with the puck, can skate well, and was the only Montreal player to appear in all 78 games last season. Montreal grabbed Larry in the second round of the 1971 Amateur Draft.

Details

ERROR – Robinson was not the only player from the Montreal Canadiens to play all 78 games during the 1973-74 season. Pete Mahovlich appeared in all 78, as well as all six playoff games.

Larry Robinson was the 20th overall pick in the second round of the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft after a single season of major junior hockey with the Kitchener Rangers. He spent his first full season of pro hockey with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs in the AHL. He helped the Voyageurs to a Calder Cup championship, taking out the Baltimore Clippers in the final.

The six time NHL All-Star defenseman (3 First Team, 3 Second Team) would win the Norris Trophy twice as the league’s top blue liner. He was also the Conn Smythe Trophy winner as playoff MVP in 1977-78.

Between 1972-73 and 1991-92, Larry played 1,384 regular season and 227 playoff games in the National Hockey League. His glory days were spent with the Habs but in his final three years, he played for the Los Angeles Kings. Robinson was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1995.
