Card Notes

Regan is one of the best stickhandlers in the NHL today. He is a real dipsy-doodler and a treat to watch. He won the Rookie Award in the NHL in 1956-57 while playing with Boston. He had a bad second year due to a gimpy knee. Is used mainly in spots with the Maple Leafs.

Details

This is the last of four hockey cards featuring Larry Regan during his NHL playing career. He would appear in 37 regular season and four playoff games with the Maple Leafs during the 1960-61 season, the last of his National Hockey League career.

Regan played the following year in the AHL with the Pittsburgh Hornets then returned for a single season in 1965-66 with the Baltimore Clippers before hanging up the blades.

His NHL career consisted of 280 regular season and 42 Stanley Cup playoff games between 1956-57 and 1960-61 with the Boston Bruins and Toronto. He was the Calder Trophy recipient with the Bruins in 1956-57 as NHL rookie of the year.

Never a Stanley Cup champion, Regan did have the distinction of playing in the final series four out of his five seasons. He played twice each for the Bruins and Maple Leafs, losing to the Montreal Canadiens on each occasion.

Larry was head coach for the Los Angeles Kings in 1970-71. The team finished fifth in the Western Division, nine points out of a playoff spot. He was behind the bench for the team’s first ten games of the 1971-72 NHL season before being replaced by Fred Glover.
