Details
John McKenzie saw time with the Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers before joining the Boston Bruins midway through the 1965-66 NHL season. He was traded from the Rangers to the Bruins on January 10, 1966 for Reg Fleming.
With Boston, McKenzie put up five straight years with at least 22 goals, scoring a career best 31 in 1970-71. Those 31 goals included two hat tricks, half of his career total of three goal games during his NHL career. The first was against the Minnesota North Stars on December 20, 1970, scored on future Boston goalie Gilles Gilbert. He added an assist and a fight with Barry Gibbs for a heck of a Gordie Howe Hat Trick.
Between 1958-59 and 1971-72, John McKenzie played 691 regular season and 69 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Blackhawks, Red Wings, Rangers and Bruins. Prior to his jump to the WHA for the start of the 1972-73 season, McKenzie was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers on August 3, 1972 and also belonged to the Pittsburgh Penguins and Atlanta Flames before starting the season in the WHA with the Philadelphia Blazers.
John played 477 regular season and 33 playoff games in the World Hockey Association between 1972-73 and 1978-79 with the Philadelphia / Vancouver Blazers, Minnesota Fighting Saints, Cincinnati Stingers and New England Whalers.
