Details

John Bucyk scored his 200th regular season NHL goal on February 26, 1966 at Maple Leaf Gardens. Just 42 seconds into the second period, The Chief scored his 18th of the 1965-66 NHL season on Toronto goalie Johnny Bower, assisted by Murray Oliver and John McKenzie. The goal tied the game at 2-2 but Pete Stemkowski scored in the third to give the Buds a 3-2 win. Bucyk led all skaters in the game with seven shots on net.

The Uke Line consisted of John, Bronco Horvath and Vic Stasiuk. Horvath last played for the Bruins in 1960-61, moving to the Chicago Blackhawks. Stasiuk was traded to the Detroit Red Wings midway through the 1960-61 season with Leo Labine for Gary Aldcorn, Tom McCarthy and Murray Oliver.

Bucyk did start his NHL career with the Red Wings, playing two seasons with the club. On June 10, 1957, he was traded for Terry Sawchuk. He made an immediate impact with the Bruins, scored 21 goals and totaling 52 points, more than double the numbers from the previous season with Detroit.

In 1967-68, Bucyk reached the 30 goal plateau for the first of seven times over his career. He was also runner-up for the Lady Byng Trophy, an award he would win twice. In a close race, he finished just behind winner Stan Mikita of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Between 1955-56 and 1977-78, John Bucyk played 1,540 regular season and 124 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins. He became just the fifth player to reach the 50 goal plateau, scoring 51 in 1970-71. The two time Stanley Cup champion was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1981.
