Details

John Bucyk was a member of the Uke Line for the Boston Bruins, along with Bronco Horvath and Vic Stasiuk. By 1961-62, both Horvath and Stasiuk had moved on to other teams with Bronco going to the Chicago Blackhawks and Vic going to the Detroit Red Wings.

Needing 18 goals in 1965-66 to reach the 200 goal plateau, Bucyk surpassed the mark scoring 27 for the Bruins. The magic goal came on February 26, 1966 at Maple Leaf Gardens. He scored his 18th of the season on Johnny Bower, assisted by Murray Oliver and John McKenzie in a 3-2 loss. John went on to score 556 regular season and 41 playoff goals over his NHL career.

He went on a tear early in that 1965-66 NHL season with a seven game goal scoring streak in late November and early December. Over those seven games, Bucyk scored seven goals and assisted on five for 12 points. However, despite his performance, the Bruins went 0-6-1 over that stretch.

Between 1955-56 and 1977-78, John Bucyk played 1,540 regular season and 124 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins. The two-time Stanley Cup champion was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1981, a year after the Bruins retired his jersey number 9.
